USCIS to Dispose of Older E-Verify and SAVE Records in January 2026: What Employers Need to Know

USCIS has announced that it will permanently dispose of older E-Verify and SAVE system records beginning in January 2026. This update is part of routine federal data management procedures that remove records more than ten years old. Employers and government agencies that use these systems should be aware of upcoming deadlines to download any case records they may need to keep.

According to USCIS, the affected records are those last updated on or before December 31, 2015. Employers who use E-Verify have until January 4, 2026, to download case data. After January 5, 2026, these older E-Verify case records will no longer be available.

For agencies that use the SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) program, records will be removed starting January 20, 2026. SAVE agency users with the Superuser role have until January 19, 2026, to download the historic records report.

What Employers Should Do Now

If your organization uses E-Verify, now is the time to:

• Download the Historical Records Report for any affected cases.
• Ensure the E-Verify case verification number is recorded on the corresponding Form I-9, or attach the case details page to the I-9.
• Keep the Historical Records Report with your I-9 documentation after downloading, as required.

If your organization or agency uses SAVE, confirm that your team members with the Superuser role are prepared to download records before the January 19, 2026 deadline.

These records may be needed for:

• Internal compliance reviews
• Government audits
• Work authorization history verification
• Ongoing or future legal or HR documentation needs

Once deleted, these records cannot be retrieved, so downloading what you need before the deadlines is essential.
